How we measure Coach’s track record
What counts as a call?
Only BUY signals — every time Coach says “buy now.” Each call is scored against what a typical family would have paid booking at a random time in the normal 30–70 days-out window for the same trip. The savings-per-ticket number is the plain average across every call — wins and misses together — so a bad call drags it down exactly as much as a good one lifts it. We never average only the wins.
Is that number just the good calls?
No — the misses are in it. It’s the straight average over every buy call: the trips Coach beat the baseline and the ones it didn’t. Headlining a “when we’re right” number would flatter the average; this doesn’t.
Where do the numbers come from?
Today, from replaying Coach’s live rules over recent real fare history on the most common volleyball tournament routes — every day, no hand-picked examples. As Coach’s live calls age enough to be judged fairly (prices need time to play out), the scoreboard switches to grading the actual calls Coach made, and the label on the card always tells you which you’re looking at. Past seasons freeze as their own line and are never recomputed or blended.
Why show the misses?
Nobody is right every time about airfare, and anyone who claims to be is selling something. That’s exactly why the headline is the average including the times Coach is wrong — not “how much we save when we win.” Coach’s job is to come out ahead over a season by a margin that pays for itself, and this page lets you check that math yourself.
